Common Electrical Repairs and Services
Although electrical contractors are trained to handle any emergency, there are some common problems that they are often called upon for. These problems can include:
The light doesn't work or is buzzing
There are three main reasons why a light switch might be causing problems:
- It was not connected correctly.
- The wiring is not working properly.
- The switch has been flipped.
Lights Dim, Buzz, or Flicker
A common problem is flickering, buzzing or dimming lights. Lights that flicker, buzz, or dim due to the following reasons:
- The wiring needs to be updated.
- It is possible that too many appliances are running on the circuit, or there is an issue with the circuit.
- The switch needs to be replaced as it is defective.
- The bulb is not tightened enough.
The circuit breaker keeps tripping
Many times, electricians are required to respond to calls for power tripping. This could be due to one of these reasons:
- A problem may exist with a particular appliance that causes the circuit trip when it’s plugged in.
- An arc fault could be caused by a loose screw at the outlet or switch terminal connection.
- The wiring is outdated and appliances are drawing too much current.
- A short circuit is when a hot wire touches a neutral.
- The circuit breaker may be worn out and requires replacement.
Dead Outlets
An electrician should be called to determine the cause of the dead outlets, regardless of whether it’s one or all. Dead outlets can be caused by:
- A few or all of the fuses may have tripped.
- The electrical wiring is defective.
- The outlet is defective.
Plug feels hot or creates a shock or tingling feeling if touched
If the outlet or appliance feels hot or blackened or gives off a tingling or shock when touched, you should not use it. The electrician might find:
- The outlet is defective and must be replaced.
- The wiring is defective.
- The appliance is defective.
Electric bill is very high
It is worth investigating if your electric bill is unusually high.
- An electrical fault in the circuit or wiring.
- Leakage in the electrical system.
- Old appliances that draw too much current.
Electrical Upgrading
An electrician is required for any wiring that is damaged or if the client wants to do renovations on his property.
- Replace an outdated, too small or inefficient panel.
- You can install more ceiling fans, lights switches, and outlets.
- Upgrade or replace the wiring.
